Eggs or meat? Environmental impact and efficiency assessment of chicken protein production with potential of Hermetia illucens use in feed

This study presents a life cycle assessment (LCA) comparing laying hen to broiler chicken production. Sustainability and protein conversion efficiency are considered. The protein-to-protein was calculated per 1t of feed consumed by birds 1 kg in end products for human consumption. Additionally, part the commercial replaced live black soldier fly larvae, reared on Gainesville diet, fruit vegetable waste (FVW). Results LCA showed significant differences integrated impacts between different production systems feeds but not insect feeds. most environmentally friendly scenario is (FVW) fed broiler. In (PCE) assessment, achieved better PCE than when quality Main influencing factors results were production, composition, content. Due many assumptions made, should be viewed critically.
